Our Story

Built for Dads Who Want More Than a Camping Trip

There is a specific kind of father who feels the urgency. He watches his son disappear into a screen and wonders when — not if — the window closes. He knows that confidence is not installed through motivation talks. It is earned. Through sweat, failure, and the patient presence of a man who has done it before.

Iron & Oak was built for him. We are the first nationally-scaled, multi-discipline father-son skills workshop. Not a retreat. Not a team-building course. A real-world classroom — where boys learn to shoot straight, build with their hands, read a forest, and trust their instincts.

Every skill is taught. Every moment is shared with Dad. That combination — hard-won competence and deep presence — is what forges the bond that lasts long after the weekend ends.

Iron & Oak Workshops

"A boy who can shoot, build, survive, and lead — and who learned it all from his dad — walks differently through the world."

Iron & Oak — Founding Principle
  • Gunmanship Safe handling, marksmanship, and confidence
  • Woodworking Hand tools, joinery, and lasting craftsmanship
  • Survival Navigation, shelter, fire, and field medicine
  • Hunting Tracking, field dressing, and ethical harvest
The Disciplines

Four Disciplines. One Weekend. A Changed Boy.

Every Iron & Oak workshop covers all four disciplines — so sons develop breadth, and dads see their boys grow across the full weekend.

Gunmanship

Straight Aim. Steady Hands. Earned Confidence.

From safe handling to marksmanship, sons leave knowing how to respect, maintain, and shoot a firearm — and why it matters.

Woodworking

Build Something Real.

Hand tools, joinery, and the satisfaction of finishing a project with your own hands. Sons leave with something they made.

Survival

Navigate. Shelter. Endure.

Map reading, fire starting, shelter building, and field first aid. The skills that build genuine confidence because they are genuinely needed.

Hunting

Track. Harvest. Honor.

Tracking, field dressing, and ethical harvest. The complete cycle of the hunt — and the respect for life it builds.

How It Works

Three Days. Real Skills. No Filler.

Iron & Oak workshops are designed with a single purpose: give fathers and sons the most meaningful three days they have ever spent together — with skills to prove it.

01

Choose Your Workshop

Browse upcoming Iron & Oak workshops by date and location. Each is a three-day long-weekend experience with a maximum of 12 father-son pairs — no large groups, no anonymous crowds.

All disciplines taught every weekend.
02

Arrive Together

Show up as a father and a son. Bring nothing except curiosity and the willingness to do hard things. Our instructors handle the rest — safety briefings, gear, meals, and a full schedule that balances rigor with joy.

All gear and meals provided.
03

Leave Changed

Sons leave with four proven competencies and a new sense of who they are. Dads leave having been present for a moment their boys will talk about for decades. Both leave closer than when they arrived.

Skills certificate for your son.

From the Field

Words from Dads Who Showed Up

My son was shy, cautious, always second-guessing himself. He came home from Iron & Oak standing two inches taller — not physically, but in how he carried himself. He built a box joint cabinet and shot a 4-inch group at 100 yards. He hasn't stopped talking about it.

Marcus T. Dad of a 13-year-old, Atlanta GA

I thought I was taking my son to a skills camp. I didn't realize I was going to learn more about my boy in three days than I had in the previous three years. The instructors created space for things we hadn't talked about in forever.

Derek W. Dad of a 15-year-old, Denver CO

Every dad I spoke to at Iron & Oak said the same thing afterward: I wish I'd done this sooner. Practical skills wrapped in something much deeper. Worth every dollar, worth every day off work.

The Window Is Open. For Now.

Boys do not stay boys. The time when a son wants his dad beside him — guiding him, pushing him, proud of him — is finite. Iron & Oak exists for that window.
